Join us for two-day event celebrating DeafSpace!

DeafSpace is a design concept about building spaces that respects Deaf culture and reflects the way Deaf people inhabit space. Join us for a two-day event with DeafSpace architect, Hansel Bauman, and ASL professor, Melanie Drolsbaugh, to explore the concepts of DeafSpace.

On Thursday, March 20th at 6:30 in the Great Hall, Hansel and Melanie will give a keynote presentation on DeafSpace followed by a Q&A session.

On Friday, March 21st in Campus Center, Melanie will lead an Intro to ASL workshop at 10:30am to teach the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) to participants. At 11:30 there will be a pause for lunch and then at 12pm Hansel will lead a DeafSpace workshop where participants will get the change to further explore the concepts of DeafSpace and practice these design skills.

All events will have ASL interpreters and CART captioning and are held in wheelchair accessible buildings. Each event will have a hybrid option for attendance and recordings will be available on this page after the event. To register for the hybrid events, please visit the event listings under the heading DeafSpace Events below. If you need any additional accommodations, please contact Grace Cipressi at gcipressi@muurausahvenlampi.com or 610-526-5470.

(Please note, it is standard practice for ASL classes to be taught "voice off," meaning that the teacher only communicates though ASL to the class. For this reason, we will not provide ASL interpreters or CART for the Intro to ASL workshop unless needed for an accommodation. If you need additional accommodations for this event, please reach out to gcipressi@muurausahvenlampi.com or 610-526-5470.)
